An online job sharing contact scheme has been launched to enable civil servants to find possible job-sharing partners.
The national database for job-sharing partners was launched this week by the Treasury. It is one of the ideas put forward during last year's Lions' Lair initiative for civil service innovation.
The job-sharing scheme was proposed by Jonathan Lepper, who works at the Treasury and who wanted to look for a job-share when he returned to work after a serious illness.
The scheme was launched by cabinet secretary Sir Gus O'Donnell, and was supported by Maggy Pigott, the chief executive of the judicial studies board, who has been in a job-share partnership for more than 20 years.
Last month, a survey of civil service recruitment by action group Working Families said 71% of jobs advertised were full-time positions. The civil service needed to do more to encourage part-time working and job-sharing arrangements, said the group.
